Qualifications for Office

All candidates are required to submit an Affidavit of Tax Payments to the Department of Revenue declaring the following:
I hereby declare under penalties of perjury that I am not currently aware of any delinquency in the filing or payment of any state income taxes, personal property taxes, municipal taxes, real property taxes on the place of residence, as stated on the declaration of candidacy, or that I am a past or present corporate officer of any fee office that owes any taxes to the state, other than those taxes which may be in dispute. I declare under penalties of perjury that I am not aware of any information that would prohibit me from fulfilling any bonding requirements for the office for which I am filing.

Mayor


  • 25 years of age
  • Citizen of the United States
  • Resident of the City at the time of election and for at least one year preceding election
  • Qualified registered voter - Must present registration card

Alderman


  • 21 years of age
  • Citizen of the United States
  • Resident of the City for one (1) year preceding election
  • Resident of the Ward from which he is elected
  • Qualified registered voter - must show registration card

Municipal Judge


  • Must be licensed to practice law with the State of Missouri unless prior to January 2, 1979, and such person has served as Municipal Judge for at least 2 years.
  • Must reside within Perry County, Missouri
  • Must be a resident of the State of Missouri
  • Must be between the ages of 21 and 75 years.
  • May not hold any other office within the City government.
  • Shall be considered holding a part-time position and as such may accept (within the requirements of the Code of Judicial Conduct, Missouri Supreme Court Rule 2) other employment

City Marshal

  • 21 years of age
  • Citizen of the United States
  • Resident of the City at the time of election and for at least one (1) year preceding election
  • Qualified registered voter – must present registration card
  • No person shall assume the duties of City Marshal until such person has completed the training program formulated pursuant to Section 590.170 and Section 590.175 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri, or some other comparable training program of not less than one hundred twenty (120) hours instruction approved by the director of the department of public safety of the state of Missouri. Any person who is elected to his first term as city marshal shall, within six months of such election, cause to be filed with the city clerk of the city and the director of the department of public safety of the state of Missouri proof that said person has completed the training program as set forth above.
