American Red Cross Group Swim Lessons - Fall 2018 Registration Form


Level 1 (ages 4-6 years):


Orients children to the aquatic environment and helps them gain basic aquatic skill, comfort in and around the water and basic propulsive skills. This is a 30 minute class.

Level 1 (ages 7-13):


Introduction to Water Skills: Helps participants feel comfortable in the water. Skills taught include entering and exiting the water, blowing bubbles, retrieve submerged objects, front and back glides and floats, tread water, kicking and arm actions. This is a 45 minute class.

Level 2 (must successfully completed level 1 or receive prior approval from instructor):


Fundamental Aquatic Skills: Gives participants success in the aquatic environment with fundamental skills. Builds on Level 1 with the addition of the following: bobbing, opening eyes under water, changing direction of travel while swimming, tread water using arm and leg actions; combined arm and leg action on front and back. This is a 45 minute class.

Level 3 (must successfully completed level 2 or receive prior approval from instructor

):
Stroke Development: Builds on the skills in Level 2 through the additional guided practice in deeper water. Participants will learn how to enter the water by jumping from the side, headfirst entries from the side in sitting and kneeling positions, bobbing while moving toward safety, rotary breathing, survival float back float and flutter, scissor, dolphin and breaststroke kick. This is a 45 minute class.

Level 4 (must successfully completed level 3 or receive prior approval from instructor

): 
Stroke Development: Kids will gain confidence during swim lessons, improve their stroke and gain additional aquatic skills.

Level 5 (must successfully completed level 4 or receive prior approval from instructor

): 
Stroke Refinement: Guidance allows kids to refine their strokes and become more efficient swimmers.

Level 6 (must successfully completed level 5 or receive prior approval from instructor

): 
Swimming and Skill Proficiency: Students will learn to swim with ease and efficiency, and gain the ability to swim smoothly over greater distances. Swimmers will also have the option to participate in more advanced courses.
