Saving Water

Kitchen & Laundry

• Check faucets and pipes for leaks
• Don’t let the faucet run while you clean vegetables
• If you wash dishes by hand, don’t leave the water running for rinsing Keep a bottle of drinking water in the refrigerator
• Use your dishwasher only for full loads
• Use your washing machine only for full loads

Bathroom

• Check faucets and pipes for leaks
• Check your toilets for leaks
• Install water-saving shower heads or flow restrictors
• Put plastic bottles in your toilet tank
• Rinse your razor in the sink full of water rather than running water the whole time
• Stop using the toilet as an ashtray or wastebasket
• Take shorter showers
• Turn off the water after you wet your toothbrush

Outside

• Check for leaks in pipes, hoses, faucets, and couplings
• Don’t run the hose while washing your car
• Plant drought-resistant trees and plants
• Water during the cool parts of the day
• Water your lawn or garden only when it is absolutely necessary.
• Put a layer of mulch around trees and plants
• Tell your children not to play with the hose and sprinkler
• Use a broom, not a hose, to clean driveways and sidewalks
